Matteo Tozzi

Speaker: Dr. Matteo Tozzi, MD

Full Professor of Vascular Surgery/ Head of Vascular Surgery Unit
University of Insubria/ASST-Sette Laghi Hospital Varese, Varese, Italy

Speaker: Dr. Matteo Tozzi, MD

Professor Matteo Tozzi is an academic vascular surgeon with extensive high-volume experience in the creation and long-term maintenance of hemodialysis vascular access. His clinical expertise encompasses complex arteriovenous fistulas, prosthetic vascular access, and advanced endovascular salvage procedures. He has been actively involved in multicenter clinical trials and registries, with a particular focus on innovation in early cannulation grafts and next-generation hemodialysis access technologies. In addition to his clinical and research activities, Professor Tozzi is internationally recognized for his contributions to education and training in vascular access surgery and is an active faculty member within the Vascular Access Society (VAS).

Reliable vascular access remains the cornerstone of hemodialysis, yet each patient’s journey through chronic kidney disease is unique. The 2019 Kidney Disease Outcomes Quality Initiative (KDOQI) vascular access guidelines update introduced a patient‑focused strategy that tailors vascular access choices to individual circumstances and personal goals.

As AV graft utilization continues to play a key role in patient-centered access strategies, there is increasing emphasis on how surgical techniques at the time of creation and post-implant maintenance strategies directly influence graft longevity and patient outcomes.

This webinar will bring together leading global experts to discuss AV graft surgical techniques and long‑term graft care for better clinical outcomes. Moderated by Dr John Ross, the webinar will also include a live Q&A session, providing an opportunity to engage directly with the speakers. Some key takeaways include:

  • Vascular access strategies are shifting toward individualized, patient‑focused care.
  • AV grafts remain essential—and their success depends on surgical technique and ongoing access maintenance.
  • The quality of grafts is a relevant factor in long-term access survival.
  • An expert consensus review of best practices in graft creation and long‑term care may improve clinicians’ education and graft outcomes.
